Madame Web Star Says Filming Blue Screen Scenes Was Absolutely Psychotic
Dakota Johnson stars in the upcoming upcoming Spider-Man-adjacent superhero movie Madame Web, and she said in a new interview that filming the blue screen scenes was "absolutely psychotic."
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Johnson said she needed to trust director SJ Clarkson to bring the movie's vision to life because so much of it was filmed with CG.
"I've never really done a movie where you are on a blue screen, and there's fake explosions going off, and someone's going, 'Explosion!' and you act like there's an explosion," she said. "That to me was absolutely psychotic."
Johnson went on to say that given the nature of making a movie like Madame Web that has a lot of CG, she had to hope the end product would turn out well.
"I was like, 'I don't know if this is going to be good at all! I hope that I did an okay job!' But I trusted her. She works so hard, and she has not taken her eyes off this movie since we started," Johnson said.
For her part, Clarkson said she was drawn to the script because it digs into powerful themes.
"I really love the idea of somebody who can see into the future, but until they can really understand their past and appreciate where they are, they can't use that power," Clarkson said. "Without wanting to overload it with profundity, I thought that's an amazing thing to explore: If we understand our past and see where we are in the present, we can then make better choices for the future."
Johnson stars in Madame Web with a cast that also includes Isabela Merced, Sydney Sweeney, and Adam Scott. The movie, which is part of Sony's Spider-Man universe, releases in theaters on February 14.
In other news, Madame Web's costume was revealed via a sugar drink and the trailer's "Amazon with my mom" quote has become something of a meme on the internet.
