Superman Legacy Director James Gunn Says Batman Isn't In The Film
The next live-action Superman movie's cast is steadily being filled out ahead of the start of principal photography in March, but one face you won't see in the film is that of the Caped Crusader, Batman. On Threads, Superman Legacy director James Gunn was asked if Batman would make an appearance in the film, to which Gunn replied that he simply hadn't been written into the story.
"Well he can't appear in Superman: Legacy because he's not in the script," Gunn posted.
Post by @jamesgunnView on ThreadsThe last couple of years have seen Superman and Batman cross paths several times, as the two had their infamous clash in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, teamed up in Justice League, and got a redo in Zack Snyder's Justice League.
While you won't see the Dark Knight in Superman Legacy, there will be several other DC Universe characters appearing alongside David Corenswet as the Man of Steel. On the human side, Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane and has been spending time with real-life journalists to nail the role of the Daily Planet reporter, while Nicholas Hoult will play Superman's arch-nemesis Lex Luthor.
Nathan Fillion, a regular in Gunn's films, will play the hot-tempered Green Lantern Guy Gardner alongside Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced, Maria Gabriela de Faria, and Anthony Carrigan as Mr. Terrific, Hawkgirl, the Engineer, and Metamorpho, respectively.
Superman Legacy is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2025. Just don't expect to see a trailer for the film for the entirety of 2024.
