Starfield's Next Update Is Biggest Yet, Will Make Asteroids Stop Tailgating You
Starfield is getting an enormous new update next week on Wednesday, January 17. Although Bethesda hasn't released the full patch notes, the developer has given players a general idea of what to expect from the upcoming patch. Based on a recent tweet regarding the game's next patch, players can look forward to quite a few bug fixes and visual improvements to the game.
It's worth noting that the January 17 update--which includes "over 100" bug fixes and other tweaks--will only be available for PC players who have opted into Steam Beta, which lets players test out new features before they're officially released.
According to Bethesda, players who are exploring the cosmos on Xbox (or playing on PC via Game Pass) will have to wait about two weeks before they can access the update's features, which include the following:
- Various quest fixes
- Eye Of The Storm quest will now allow players to dock with the Legacy and transfer data correctly
- Temples from the Into The Unknown quest should now appear correctly
- Fixes for other quest bugs that can prevent Constellation members from exploring the galaxy
- Stability improvements
- Various graphic improvements
- Widescreen support
- Improved textures
- Improved lighting
- Improved shadows
- Accurate sun disk geometry
- Improved planet ring shadows
- Bulldozed objects will no longer reappear when returning to an outpost
- Certain ship hatches will no longer be marked as inaccessible
- Asteroids should no longer follow players' ships through the galaxy
Bethesda says players can look forward to the full patch notes releasing alongside the Steam Beta update next week. As for when non-Steam players will gain access to the update, Bethesda has not announced an official date, but the official Bethesda Twitter account says players can expect to see the update released in full for all players roughly two weeks after the January 17 Steam Beta release.
