Palworld Isn't The Only Survival Game Climbing Up The Steam Charts
While Palworld still reigns supreme, another contender to the Steam survival game throne, Enshrouded, is making quite a name for itself in the few days following its early access release.
According to SteamDB, the open-world survival game with more of an action-RPG bent is off to a strong start, having reached more than 160,000 concurrent players in recent days following its January 24 launch. In a statement, Enshrouded developer Keen Games revealed the game has attracted over a million players so far. It's also the second-best-selling game on Steam right now by revenue behind only Palworld.
"We are completely blown away by its success and the overwhelmingly positive reception," Keen Games writes in a statement. "From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank all our players. We're excited to let you know this is just the beginning for Enshrouded."
As for what's next, the development team will focus on adding additional features and expand the game world with more locations to explore and enemies to encounter, according to Enshrouded's Steam page. More skills, as well as new equipment, weapons, and building materials, are also planned.
Keen Games has stated it hopes for Enshrouded to leave early access within a year, but that the timing will depend on player feedback. The game's price, which is currently $30, will also increase once it leaves early access, Keen Games writes.
Up to 16 players can team up in Enshrouded, as they battle massive bosses and choose skills that will complement one another in battle. In combat, players are able to parry, block, and dodge roll, as well as wield a variety of weapons and magic. On the crafting side of the equation, Enshrouded's voxel-based building system gives players the power to bring their creative vision to life, and building a quality base or town will see attract NPCs that will offer even more advanced crafting options, including the ability to create powerful weapons and armor.
While Palworld remains the most popular game on Steam in terms of both revenue and players (it recently broke 2 million concurrent players on the platform), there certainly seems to be a lot to like about Enshrouded for those who maybe aren't into the whole monster-collecting aspect Palworld brings to the survival game table. Enshrouded currently sports a "Very Positive" average user-review score on Steam out of more than 13,000 reviews.
Meanwhile, The Pokemon Company has stated it intends to investigate Palworld, which has been labeled by the internet as "Pokemon with guns" and has been accused of heavily borrowing, or allegedly even plagiarizing, Pokemon designs. The Pokemon parent company stated it intends to "investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights" related to Pokemon.
