Netflix Drops Trailer For Live-Action Avatar: The Last Airbender Series
Netflix has released a new trailer for its live-action series adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, based on the 2005 animated series. The project received a straight-to-series order from Netflix in 2018, with the premiere of the initial eight-episode season scheduled for February 22.
The series tracks Aang, the young Avatar, on his journey to master the four elements and bring balance to a world endangered by the Fire Nation. An official show synopsis further sets the stage: "Water. Earth. Fire. Air. The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads..." In the trailer, Gordon Cormier, portraying Aang, declares, "I'm the Avatar, and I'm going to save the world--with my friends." Check it out below.
The cast includes Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as General Iroh, Ken Leung as Commander Zhao, Elizabeth Yu as Princess Azula, Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko, Kiawentiio as Katara, and Ian Ousley as Sokka.
This project is a reimagining of the Nickelodeon animated series that ran for three seasons starting in 2005. Albert Kim takes on the roles of showrunner, executive producer, and writer in this rendition. The series' executive producers include Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore, Jabbar Raisani, and Michael Goi. Directing duties will be shared by Roseanne Liang, Michael Goi, Jabbar Raisani, and Jet Wilkinson.
