More Video Game Developer Layoffs Are Happening
Video game developers are still laying off more workers even after 2023 saw a grueling amount of redundancies in the industry.
Lords of the Fallen publisher CI Games has laid off 10% of its workforce across the company. In an statement to GamesIndustry.biz, CEO Marek Tyminski said, "To preserve business strength and stability, CI Games has made the tough but necessary decision to implement a targeted round of redundancies, affecting approximately 10% of employees across the company."
The layoffs reportedly targeted mostly the marketing team. Lord of the Fallen developer Hexworks and Sniper Ghost Warrior developer Underdog were impacted as well.
Another studio that has laid off workers is Behaviour Interactive, the studio behind Dead By Daylight. It reportedly only impacted Behaviour Montreal's staff, but 45 people were seemingly let go between January 9 and 11.
"Recently, changing market conditions necessitated adjusting the scope of several Behaviour projects," a spokesperson said. "In these situations, our preference is always to reassign talent to other projects. Unfortunately, this option is not always available to us. These departures represented less than 3% of our total workforce."
This month still continues to see layoffs from across the video game industry. Unity implemented its largest lay off, impacting a staggering 25% of its workforce, and Twitch laid off around 500, people. Yesterday, Thunderful announced that it would be laying off 20%, or roughly 100 people, of its workforce too.
