Dev Patel's Monkey Man Gets A Vicious First Trailer
Oscar-nominee Dev Patel makes his directorial debut with the action-packed revenge tale Monkey Man. The film, out on April 5, is produced by Jordan Peele through his Monkeypaw Productions via Universal Studios, who dropped the first trailer Friday morning.
Patel stars in the movie as Kid, described as "an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. The legend of Hanuman, a deity in Hinduism, inspires the film. Check out the trailer below.
“After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite," the official synopsis reads. "As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him."
Patel directed and wrote the film along with Paul Angunawela and John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World), the latter of which wrote Hotel Mumbai, starring Patel. The trailer is brutal with hard-hitting fight choreography.
Along with Patel, the film stars Sharlto Copley (District 9), Sobhita Dhulipala (Made in Heaven), Pitobash (Million Dollar Arm), Vipin Sharma (Hotel Mumbai), Ashwini Kalsekar (Ek Tha Hero), Adithi Kalkunte (Hotel Mumbai), Sikandar Kher (Aarya), and Makarand Deshpande (RRR).
Monkey Man hits theaters on April 5.
