Avowed Release Window Confirmed, And Lots Of New Footage Shown Off
After resurfacing for the first time in three years during the 2023 Xbox Games Showcase, Avowed--the latest RPG from Obsidian Entertainment--was again featured during today's Xbox Developer Direct. Not only did we see new gameplay for the upcoming adventure, but we also learned its release window: Fall 2024.
The gameplay video gave a proper introduction to what players can expect in Avowed, which included the different areas of The Living Lands--Avowed is not a full "open-world" game like Skyrim or Fallout--instead, the game will incorporate multiple smaller zones a la Obsidian's recent release, The Outer Worlds. The video also showed off the multiple combat methods available to each character, which include melee weapons, magic, and even a gun.
The presentation also gave us insight to the game's enemies, combat styles, and progression systems--and it looks pretty extensive. Footage also showed off the moral nuance and gray areas in Avowed; players will need to make key decisions that shape the narrative overall.
Avowed follows an envoy of the Aedyr Empire, who is sent into The Living Lands after rumors of a deadly plague have spread throughout the empire. The game has reportedly seen multiple changes throughout development, with reports of a scrapped co-op mode surfacing last summer.
Avowed will launch this fall on Xbox Series X S and PC. It was one of a few games featured during the Xbox Developer Direct, with Indiana Jones, Ara: History Untold, and Hellblade 2: Senua's Saga also sharing the spotlight.
